Responder 1

Responder 1 is the entry point into the Shepherd Training Group pathway. It is built to give students a practical foundation in responder-style trauma care through S-MARCH-E algorithm, clear instruction, repetition, and hands-on application.

Format
Extended instructor-led training with progressive application, practical scenarios, and a strong emphasis on performing under stress.
Day 1
Day 1 includes the Responder 1 and Responder 2 progression. Students begin with foundational trauma response built around the S-MARCH-E framework, then advance into more hands-on application, repetition, and practical use of core responder skills and equipment.
Day 2
Day 2 is the dedicated Responder 3 phase and goes deeper into responder mindset, care under pressure, bleeding control, shock considerations, casualty movement, and practical problem-solving in dynamic scenarios.
Student Fit
Responder 3 is intended for students who are serious about training and want the most advanced course currently offered in the Shepherd Training Group pathway.
Physical Expectations
This is a physically active, scenario-driven course. Students should be able to move independently, participate in hands-on drills, and handle moderate physical activity without assistance.
What to Wear / Bring
Long sleeves and pants are strongly recommended. Students should expect to get dirty during training, and conditions may include mud, water, simulated blood, or other outdoor and scenario-related exposure depending on course setup. A change of clothes and shoes is highly recommended.
Course Length
Two back-to-back 10-hour training days.
Meals and Drinks
Students are responsible for their own meals and drinks during the course.
Included Materials
Included with the course: CAT Gen 7 Tourniquet (trainer), 6-inch Emergency Trauma Dressing (ETD), compressed gauze (trainer), nasopharyngeal airway (28 fr.), and a two-pack of chest seals (trainer).
