Stop the Bleed Training Near Charleston SC

What it is, what actually happens in class, and why the training you get here is different from a free hospital course.

If you've watched someone get seriously hurt and felt completely useless — that's exactly what this training is for. Stop the Bleed is a nationally recognized bleeding control program, and we run it as the foundation of everything we teach at Shepherd Training Group.

We're based out of Moncks Corner and train people across the Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester County area. If you're looking for hands-on Stop the Bleed training near Charleston SC, here's what to expect.

What Stop the Bleed Actually Teaches You

Most people have heard the name. Far fewer have actually done the skill work. Stop the Bleed training is built around three core techniques: tourniquet application, wound packing, and pressure control. These aren't complicated. But they have to be practiced — not just explained from the front of a room.

The reason bleeding control matters so much is simple. Uncontrolled bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death after a traumatic injury. Not cardiac arrest. Bleeding. And in a lot of situations — a bad car accident, a shooting, a job site injury — EMS is minutes away. The person next to you is your best shot.

How We Run It — No Lecture Halls

Our Stop the Bleed training is the foundation of Responder 1 — a 4-hour block we call the crawl phase. You're not sitting through slides. You're doing reps.

Students practice tourniquet application, wound packing, and chest seal placement until it starts to feel automatic. Then we drop you into scenarios — motor vehicle accidents, workplace injuries, mass casualty situations — and make you actually think through the scene under a little pressure.

Scenarios run anywhere from 2 minutes to 50 minutes depending on the situation. The goal is to build familiarity so that if something real happens, you're not starting from zero.

Who Shows Up

Honestly, all kinds of people. We've had students from 8 years old to 80. Most of the folks who find us are preparedness-minded — they want practical skills that can actually help in a real emergency. Church groups, families, gun owners, community organizers, people who just decided they're done being helpless.

No medical background required. If you can follow directions and put in the reps, you'll leave ready.

Where We Teach

We run classes out of Moncks Corner with coverage across the greater Charleston area — Berkeley County, Dorchester County, and surrounding communities. If you're in North Charleston, Summerville, Goose Creek, or anywhere in the Lowcountry, this is the closest hands-on Stop the Bleed training that's actually going to push you.

We also bring training directly to groups — churches, businesses, security teams. If you've got 10 or more people and want us to come to you, reach out through the contact page.

What You Walk Out With

Every student takes home a full trauma kit. This isn't a certificate of participation — it's real gear:

CAT Gen 7 Tourniquet
Pressure bandage
Gauze
Nasopharyngeal airway (NPA)
Chest seals

You take it home to keep doing reps. Teach your family. Keep it in your car. That's the point. You also leave with an official Stop the Bleed certificate issued through our Refuge Medical training partnership.
